5 Things You Should Know Before Moving Into Whitney Hall!

Moving away from home and moving on to your next chapter in your life can be difficult for many. Moving away to college can be a stressful time, however, In this blog I will tell you everything you need to know so you are prepared and ready to go for your first days at Whitney Hall.

Tip 1: Make a list of needs from the college and pack accordingly.

Before the school year starts colleges usually will provide all students who are moving into their student housing buildings with a checklist of necessary items to bring and what not to bring. Make sure you follow this list well, because the list includes things you may forget, but also more importantly they have things you are not allowed to bring due to regulations and fire hazards to their buildings.

Tip 2: Contact your roommate to discuss who will bring what.

The college should provide you with your roommate’s contact information. You may want to reach out to them before you move in to establish who is bringing what. Not only will this help lighten your load, but it will also make the moving experience easier overall. You will each know what to bring and how to pack accordingly.

Tip 3: You can ALWAYS shop when you get to school.

There is no need to be stressed out and over packing just to make sure you get everything for your dorm before you get to school. Make sure you have the basics and a family member to come with you and you can always shop at near by stores to get the last minute things so you don’t over pack and makes the whole moving process easier.

Tip 4: Bring storing bins.

Storage bins are cheap and can also be very important. Everyone has things they need to just store away for later. You can always bring extra things like blankets and winter clothes, but dorm rooms are just so small it can be hard to store everything in your closet or drawers. This is when storage bins are a great investment before moving into your college dorm.

Tip 5: Leave your door open the first week.

This is the final, but also one of the most important tips I could give anyone before moving into dorms. This is especially important when living in a dorm like Whitney, because it is known as a very social dorm and when leaving your door open, people just pop their head in and say “Hi” and it’s easier to meet people. Meeting new people is part of the dorm experience and leaving the door open is a great way to do this and make new friends.
